How are we addressing the issue, at present?
SAVE was conceptualized and is run by young professionals and students from diverse academic fields - people who know the problem from the core, and understand the issue best. We have adopted some plans of action, considering the needs and the very limited resources available with our non-profit organization, with advices from our patrons and well-wishers, including psychiatrists, psychologists, present and past faculty members from premier institutions and other institutions, other academicians, lawyers, journalists, film-makers, etc.
However, we are always open to consider new suggestions and ideas, provided the resources available permit their implementation.
Awareness! The Most Important One.
Law, alone, is probably not enough. Had it been so, other crimes would have disappeared long ago. So would have ragging. However a strict law would be extremely important and we have that! However, many students and even many officials are not fully aware of the detailed legal provisions and recourses available.
The most important issue about the awareness is about breaking the myths that surround ragging, information about the psychology involved, and about various dreadful consequences of ragging as well. Students, both seniors and juniors, need to be counseled and proper awareness must be generated and/or spread among them, and among others concerned - including the parents, as well.
Supporting the victims, whatever and whenever possible!
Though we have our limitations, we try our best to provide supports to the victims. When approached for necessary supports, we try to arrange medical supports, including psychiatric / psychological consultation (which is often required), whenever possible. However, for this and for other medical supports, we are dependent on the kind supports offered by the concerned professionals supporting our cause.
We also try to provide legal guidance to the victims and/or their families. Again, we are dependent on the kind supports from the lawyers. However, we also have started our own legal cell in Delhi, headed by Mrs. Meera Kaura Patel, who also co-founded our Delhi chapter along with Mr. Ajay Govind, an independent film-maker.
[If you are a qualified Psychiatrist / Psychologist or Counselor / Doctor other than psychiatrist / Civil or Criminal Lawyer AND want to offer your kind and extremely valuable professional supports, free of cost, for the cause, please feel free let us know]
